The most ubiquitous of them all was arguably “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.” The show had a continual, yet non-lethal, rivalry between the grossly musclebound hero, He-Man, and the aptly named, skeleton-faced villain, Skeletor. Looking back it was a fairly odd fantasy show with massive plot holes, but hey, it was the 80s — it was a simpler time.
No matter how wacky it was and is, it’s still fondly remembered by many. And since we live in a world that loves to reboot, respin, and revive all sorts of content from eras past, there is a new He-Man tribute commercial for us to drink in. The video tribute is still just about as nonsensical as the original series, but it’s perhaps even more delightful than your childhood He-Man viewings.
The commercial is brought to us by a Welsh company called MoneySuperMarket, which currently uses Skeletor as their mascot in general. To give it even more 80s layers, the plot involves another iconic flashback — the final dance scene from “Dirty Dancing.” In the video, He-Man is basically Patrick Swayze and Skeletor is basically Jennifer Grey and a dive bar is the setting for their big dance.
Now, I can’t say you’ll have “the time of your life” (sorry) while watching, but I can say that it is delightful in it’s weird and silly beauty. As a bonus, you’ll even get to hear Skeletor’s signature, evil laugh at the end.
