The fifth-annual Great Bend Party in the Park which took place last Saturday at Veterans Park offered something unique this year. In addition to the first ever wet-dry parade, Kansas City kite seller Great American Kites & Events brought Mega Kite Mania to the park. Mud Volleyball was back, and the dog park was a popular hang-out for Great Bend’s four-legged residents. Cloudy skies kept the temperature comfortable, making it a great day for a car show, and members from several area car clubs turned out with their chariots shined. Concessions and a bounce-house feature drew many to the playground area, where mid-afternoon an eating contest was held. Later, as the sun began to set, some gathered for the NCYC Glow Run, while others made their way to the ball field to watch the lineup of singers including Ricky Fugitt, Homebrew, and Jason Boland & The Stragglers. There was also a fireworks display.
